Good Web Design Practices
Today we’ll take a break from JavaScript and get back to some basic good web page design practices. As is mentioned in the video, your page should be a combination of form and function. But flashy graphics and displays cannot take the place of usability and good content. Animated GIF files and Flash are nice, but can sometime overpower the purpose of your site. Do not let the graphics overshadow the message and goal of your website. Keep your site simple enough for users to understand and be able to navigate. Design your site by means that can be updated. If you put all of your text in a picture, you cannot change the text without completely remaking the picture. Don’t close off the site so that you cannot later modify it without destroying part of it. Your site should follow common web acceptable color schemes, formats, and adhere to the accessibility guidelines for the impaired. Avoid the overly bright color schemes and using conflicting colors for your background and text. Your Neon Green background will quickly wear out your user’s eyes and they will leave your site. The same goes for choosing color combinations like red and green for your background and text.
